When he was just a child, Jensi Infante and his family were baptized many years ago, in Guayana, Venezuela. Shortly after they were baptized, his family stopped going to church and they became inactive.
Many years later, one of Jensi’s friends invited him to come to institute. Although he had not attended church for many years, Jensi decided he would give it a try. After going to institute just one time, Jensi made many new friends and found that he really enjoyed it. He enjoyed it so much that he began to attend regularly.
Jensi did not realize it at the time, but being in an environment like the institute, filled with the Spirit, allowed his testimony to grow. By the time he was 18, he had returned to full activity in the church and was attending each Sunday.
Soon after returning to church, his priesthood leaders challenged him to prepare to serve a full time mission. He accepted the challenge and wasted no time in attending the missionary preparation course offered at the institute.
Jensi had the opportunity to speak in church before he left to serve in the Venezuela Valencia Mission. “Institute changed my life, it was a home and a refuge for me,” he said in his talk, “I testify that this program helps youth like me prepare to serve the Lord as a missionary and for challenges in life.”
Jensi’s life changed because of a friend who took the time to invite him to institute, and because of the institute program in Guayana Venezuela.
As we live gospel principles and participate in institute, we will have the same strength that Jensi found to face life’s challenges. We will know the truth of the words of the great Book of Mormon prophet, Helaman “… it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you…”
